Introducing The Parent Project

We want to promote the safe use of digital resources and communications for families’ building their digital parenting skills, with the aim to empower parents to walk alongside their children as they enter the digital world and become responsible digital citizens.

We plan to follow four New Zealand families and their digi-parenting learning over the coming year. Our 4 families are from all over New Zealand, with kids that range in age from toddlers to late teens, at all levels of digital expertise. Each family has different concerns for their kids online, from ensuring safe and secure access to the Internet through to supporting teens in their first forays into social media.

Over the coming year, our families will undertake various activities as part of the Project with the first task being to set up their own family digital agreement to help with managing screen time, safe access online, and putting guidelines in place so kids know what to do if they come across something inappropriate. Here’s some tips on how to set up your own family digital agreement.
We will be sharing our Vodafone families’ monthly tasks with you with ideas on how you can also do the tasks at home. We’d love to hear about your experiences.
